STEFFI GRAF PULLS OUT OF WTA TOURNAMENT
Steffi Graf, who added the US Open title to her Grand Slam collection at the weekend, has pulled out of the WTA tournament in Leipzig which starts on 25 September, citing injury. Details were not given of the injury, but she has suffered back problems for most of the year.
Mats Wilander has been recalled to Sweden's Davis Cup team for their semi-final against the United States in Las Vegas starting 22 September. Wilander, 31, has not represented Sweden in the competition for four years, but injuries to Magnus Larsson and Jan Apell have earned him the call 14 years after his first appearance. He will join Stefan Edberg, Thomas Enqvist and Jonas Bjorkman in the defending champions' side.
Lizzie Jelfs, the British No 1, will lead Great Britain against the United States in the 1995 Maureen Connolly Trophy in Glasgow next month. Stockport's Kate Warne-Holland also makes her debut, while Mandy Wainwright, from Chingford, competes for the fourth successive year.
