French Open: Former French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova through to fourth-round
Former French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova is through to the quarter-finals in Paris after knocking out eighth seed Angelique Kerber at Roland Garros today.
Kuznetsova, the winner in 2009, is now likely to face Serena Williams in what could be a tricky encounter for the world number one.
Kuznetsova at her best has the power and variety to trouble Williams especially on clay, and, unlike a lot of the American's opponents, will not be intimidated.
The Russian was certainly impressive today, fighting back after losing the second set to Kerber to win 6-4 4-6 6-3 in two hours and 21 minutes on Court Philippe Chatrier.
Kuznetsova missed the end of last season with a knee problem but reached the quarter-finals at the Australian Open in January and has climbed back to 39th in the rankings.
