Woodbridge sets record with his ninth men's doubles title

Australian Woodbridge, the most successful doubles player in history, and Swede Bjorkman triumphed 6-1 6-4 4-6 6-4 over the 16th seeds on court one.

It was 33-year-old Woodbridge's ninth men's doubles title at Wimbledon, breaking the 100-year-old record of the Doherty brothers, Laurie and Reggie.

Woodbridge, who won his first six titles at Wimbledon with fellow Aussie Mark Woodforde in 1993 and the last two with Bjorkman, has no intention of hanging up his racket just yet.

"Right now, my game is good enough to keep playing," he said.

"You are a long time retired.

I'm certainly not retiring today.

"It was my dream of mine as a kid to be able to play here and to say I've been able to win more of these titles at this event than anyone in the history of tennis makes me proud.

"It feels great.

I knew it was possible, I just had to stay focused to get the job done.

To get through today was a great performance.

I feel like I played one of my best matches."

In the women's doubles, sixth seeds Cara Black (Zimbabwe) and Rennae Stubbs (Australia) beat fifth seeds Liezel Huber, of South Africa, and Ai Sugiyama (Japan) in the women's doubles final 6-3 7-6 (7/5).

Sugiyama partnered Kim Clijsters to the title last year.

Black then linked up with her brother Wayne in the mixed doubles semi-final to beat Americans Lindsay Davenport and Bob Bryan 7-5 7-5.

In the final they will meet Woodbridge and another Aussie, Alicia Molik.
