Ronan O'Gara

For Ireland v England March 2004

's performance for Ireland last year against England is the one which really stands out for me. It was at Twickenham and England had just come back as world champions but Ireland won the game 19-13 and it was Ronan (below) who made the difference. I remember that he missed a penalty early on from about 15 metres, but he managed to compose himself and from there on in he was truly amazing. His kicking that day was brilliant but it was his decision making and the way he controlled the game that was really impressive. When you think of great players they are all able to put in great performances consistently and I think Ronan has started to do that. You just have to look at the way he played against South Africa and then Argentina in November. The more experience he gains the better he becomes.

Mick Galwey, now 38, won 41 caps for Ireland at lock from 1991-2002.
