Hovercraft racing is a sport in which Britain excels. At the World Championships in France last month, Rupert Baker, from Banbury, won the Formula Junior class and Britons came second in Formula Three and Formula S and third in Formulas One, Two and Junior. Tattershall Park, Lincolnshire, is the scene this weekend for the eighth and final round of the National series and three of the four classes racing have yet to be decided. This includes the top two categories, Formulas One and Two. The F1 craft have unlimited engine size and can achieve speeds in excess of 80mph over land and water. This should provide some spectacular competition at Tattershall Park as the course is mainly flat and fast. Racing starts at noon tomorrow and on Sunday.

How to get there: Tattershall Park, Lincolnshire, is on A153 Sleaford to Horncastle road. Admission: pounds 1 adults, 50p children/OAPs. Under-fives are free. (Tel: 0526-343193).
