London Towers overcame the absence of injured internationals Steve Bucknall and Joel Moore to beat Tofas Bursa, of Turkey, 83-74 in the first leg of their European Korac Cup second round tie at Guildford Spectrum last night after trailing 48-37 at half-time, writes Duncan Hooper.

Towers were outscored before the break but hit back with a 23-5 run from the restart. Americans Danny Lewis and Tony Windless led their scorers with 23 and 17 points respectively, backed by 12 from Andy Gardiner.

Jim Brandon, the Sheffield coach, is unable to face Real Madrid, one of his old rivals, in the first round, second leg of the European Clubs' Championship tonight but should be available for the return next week. Justin Jones is fit again but Chris Finch is still recovering from a virus.
