UCAS is once again the venue for the One Life: results national telephone helpline. The campaign, which runs from 12 to 31 August, offers free, independent and confidential advice to school and college leavers on their post-exam options, particularly those in Clearing.

Last year, the One Life: results service, which is provided by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) in conjunction with BBC Radio, handled 13,500 calls during August. The supporting BBC Radio 1 results website recorded 430,000 page impressions.

This year, some 50 Connexions personal advisers will be on hand to deal with queries. A helpline in Scotland will handle enquiries from Scottish students. BBC Radio 1, 2 and 5 Live, BBC Radio Scotland and local radio stations will carry special trails and programmes to coincide with the release of exam results and Confirmation and Clearing.

The personal advisers have access to an online database, developed by the DfES and UCAS, which gives up-to-the-minute information about course availability. They can also access students' individual details to give specific, tailored advice.
