Google unveils Google Cardboard Plastic 'actual reality' headset for April Fools' Day

Google played a lot of April Fools' jokes today (some more successful than others), with one announcing their supposed plans for a new era of virtual reality.

Google Cardboard, a basic virtual reality headset designed to work with an ordinary smartphone, made VR technology more accessible than ever before when it first came out in 2014.

Now, they've gone one step further with Google Cardboard Plastic, a completely transparent plastic box which goes over your eyes, capable of delivering the realest reality experience ever.

Boasting a fully immersive display, a lightweight build, completely waterproof construction, integration with any app and 360-degree audio, it's truly an impressive piece of kit. And the resolution makes it look just like real life!

After their Gmail prank ended up angering and inconveniencing customers, this joke looks even better.

Even though it's all a joke, there have been rumours that Google is currently working on new (and real) VR products.

A quick look at Google's jobs page shows the company is hiring a number of new staff members for virtual reality-related jobs, in hardware and software design. We could see a new Google VR product soon, but hopefully it'll be a bit better than the plastic headset.
