Apple has pulled a system update for the iPad Pro, after some users reported the download was apparently breaking their devices.

The company released iOS 9.3.2 for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch on Monday, which mostly fixed a few bugs in the system.

For some owners of the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, however, the bug fix simply caused more problems, bricking their tablets and making them unusable. The affected users seem to have updated their iPads 'over the air', rather than by connecting them to a computer.

According to the users, they got an 'Error 56' message after downloading the update, which usually refers to hardware issues. Users were told to connect their devices to iTunes, but this hasn't solved the problem for everyone. Rebooting doesn't seem to fix it either.

It's not known how many users have been affected by the issue, but it's enough to cause a headache for Apple.

In a statement, the company said: "We're looking into a small number of reports that some iPad units are receiving an error when updating the software. Those unable to restore their device through iTunes should contact Apple support."

On Friday, the company released another statement acknowledging the problem. As reported by 9to5Mac, it said it was working on a fix for the issue, which impacted a "small number of iPad units," and added it would issue an update "as quickly as possible."

It's not clear what Apple will do for users whose iPads are already bricked. We've contacted the company to find out.
