No need to convert movie files for new Android-powered phone

The Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700 is the first Android-based phone to support the DivX file format, meaning users can quickly transfer movies to their phone without needing to convert multimedia files.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., revealed the fourth in its line of Android-powered mobile phones to the public on November 16. The device is a powerful touch screen handset that is designed to provide users with "an exceptional multimedia experience."

The Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700 packs in an 800MHz processor enabling users to seamlessly play multimedia - including the popular DivX video file format - on their device without having to re-format or convert files.

"Samsung has made a great effort to strengthen our smartphone line up with a wide range of innovative products for every user," said JK Shin, executive vice president and head of the Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics.

"The Samsung Galaxy Spica, powered by Android, is the perfect fit for users who want to enjoy a powerful and fast mobile experience."

The phone measures in at just 13.2 mm thick and comes with a 3.2 inch HVGA touch screen display. There is a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, Bluetooth 2.1 and a 3.5mm headphone jack for stereo sound.

Samsung's device will join a quickly growing list of Android-powered smartphones that includes Motorola's Droid, Sony's XPERIA X10 and HTC's Hero.

Adding to that list in the near future will be computer manufacture Dell. The company has just confirmed they will enter the smartphone market in both China and Brazil with their own Android-powered smartphone named the Dell Mini 3.

The Samsung Galaxy Spica is currently available throughout Europe and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) for approximately 99€ on a two year contract (pricing varies by region). A wider rollout in the MEA region is expected to take place shortly.
