Top soundtracks not just for 'DJ Hero 2'

It's no suprise that DJ Hero 2 and Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock would have to sound just as good as they look, but Call of Duty: Black Ops and True Crime: Hong Kong are also looking to capitalize on a growing trend for catchy soundtracks.

Added to DJ Hero 2's roster is US R&B star Usher with his song "OMG," who joins Dr Dre, Chemical Brothers, David Guetta, Deadmau5, Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Metallica, Rihanna and Z-Trip.

Meanwhile, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock is to include Soundgarden's unreleased track 'Black Rain', along with another 90-odd tracks, including offerings from Muse, Black Sabbath, Def Leppard, and Megadeth.

Pharrell Williams and collaborator Rhea are slated to appear on the backing tracks for True Crime: Hong Kong, which follows an undercover cop who must try to infiltrate and dissolve a Triad gang.

Gran Turismo (1997) was one of the first series to take advantage of licensed music, and featured, among others, the Manic Street Preachers and Ash's "Lose Control." The following entries to the driving simulation series also had soundtracks pulling from popular dance and rock tracks of the time.

The fifth Gran Turismo title is expected to be given a release date during Sony's presentation at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, June 15.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) turned heads for cramming over 100 songs into the game for players to listen to as they cruised the streets in a variety of vehicles. Many of them were immediately recognizable hits of the 1980s, the period in which the game was set, and even included the theme from TV show Miami Vice, as if the homage was not already clear.

There was even a CD box set released in conjunction with the game, while Grand Theft Auto IV's 2009 soundtrack was made available for digital download via Amazon and iTunes.
