Hodgson: no bid for Smalling so far

Roy Hodgson, the Fulham manager, yesterday said Arsène Wenger was too honourable to resort to underhand tactics in any pursuit of the young centre-half Chris Smalling. Hodgson stated that Fulham have received no offers for the highly rated England Under-21 international, despite speculation that Arsenal are ready to pay £7m for the 20-year-old, who was signed from non-league Maidstone in 2008.

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson maintains there has been no contact from Arsenal over promising defender Chris Smalling - and would expect a phone call from Arsene Wenger if there was any interest.

Football in Brief: Shawcross return boosts Potters

Stoke City v Fulham Potters manager Tony Pulis welcomes back defender Ryan Shawcross for tonight's match after the centre-back missed the FA Cup win over York through suspension. Senegalese pair Abdoulaye Faye and Salif Diao, both rested for Saturday's victory, should also feature, while goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen is hopeful of being fit after being forced off at half-time against the Minstermen with a finger injury. Fulham has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the trip to the Britannia Stadium. Norwegian centre-back Brede Hangeland remains a doubt with the knee injury that has sidelined him since Boxing Day, but Andrew Johnson [groin] and Paul Konchesky [back] will feature after coming through Saturday's 1-0 win over Swindon. Damien Duff, Chris Baird, and Danny Murphy may all return after being rested for that match, although defender John Pantsil [knee] misses out.
