Mind your manor

If you want to fill the gap between Christmas and New Year, Luton Hoo country-house hotel has a half-price offer for the "Christmas Interlude". The Georgian manor house is surrounded by Capability Brown-designed gardens and features an 18-hole golf course and spa. The offer of £220 for a double room with breakfast is available between 27-30 December, and also 19-22 December and 1-8 January (01582 734437; www.lutonhoo.co.uk).

Balancing bargain

The Balancing Barn, near Aldeburgh on the Suffolk coast, was the first property to open in the Living Architecture project masterminded by the philosopher, Alain de Botton. Whoever bags the five nights from 23 to 28 December will be the first to spend a Christmas at this remarkable cantilevered creation. The price of £2,600 covers up to eight guests, working out at a reasonable £65 per person per night. (www.living-architecture.co.uk).

Take the Mickey

Florida's theme parks will be free for big kids to enjoy without the crowds in early January. Jetsave has a deal in Orlando departing Gatwick on 12 January for two weeks for £549 per person. The price includes return US Airways flights, Alamo car hire and room-only accommodation at the three-star Monumental Movieland hotel on International Drive, plus free shuttle transfers to Universal Orlando Resort (0871 664 0294; www.jetsave.com).
