The Met Office issued several severe weather warnings yesterday as motorists faced treacherous conditions on the North Yorkshire moors.

Temperatures are expected to drop to -5C in some regions in the next few days. The heaviest snow is expected in the Scottish Highlands, Yorkshire, North-east England and East Anglia. A moderate covering is forecast across the rest of the country. Aisling Creevey, of MeteoGroup, said: "The cold weather looks like it is here to stay for the next 10 days and we may see a lot more snow for eastern areas."
