LETTER : Have we forgotten Srebenica already?
From Mr Christopher Catherwood
Sir: The recent coverage of the death of Jill Phipps reminds us how regrettable the trade of animals to the Continent has become, and how much the animals suffer.
But where are the brave Jill Phippses to protest against the slaughter of thousands of our fellow human beings in Bosnia? If the inhuman transport of veal calves is worth a protest, how much more so the dreadful carnage of Srebenica? Why are not today's young people demonstrating against the Serbs as their parents did against Vietnam or their grandparents against Franco's Spain? Surely that is a sad reflection on today's society, that suffering calves count for more than massacred Muslims.
Yours faithfully,
Christopher Catherwood
