LETTER : Up to standard on Channel 4
From Mr John Willis
Sir: I won't comment on Maggie Brown's speculation about Channel 4's youth programming and the ITC's annual performance review (13 March), but I can't let her dismissive review of our overall performance stand unchallenged.
"Not a particularly distinguished programme track record ... during 1994" Really? There was Melvyn Bragg's interview with Dennis Potter, Beyond the Clouds, Alan Bleasdale Presents, Gimme Health, Rory Bremner - Who Else?, Time Team, Don't Forget Your Toothbrush, Cutting Edge's films about Graham Taylor and Northwood Golf Club, and the continuing triumphs of our commissioned Films on Four (Four Weddings and a Funeral in the cinema and The Crying Game reaching the small screen).
I suspect few of our viewers would judge this an undistinguished record by any standards, even our own.
Yours sincerely,
JOHN WILLIS
Director of Programmes
