WILLIAM Shawcross has informed me of an error in my review of his biography of Rupert Murdoch (20 September).

I wrote that Mr Murdoch had agreed to help Mr Shawcross only after the former had cancelled his contract with Random House to produce his autobiography. According to Mr Shawcross this was not so: Mr Murdoch's help actually pre-dated his agreement with Random House.
