In your leader "12 reasons to be European" (12 May) you state that "war between member countries is unthinkable". Is it? What about the American Civil War, which the Oxford Dictionary defines as the "war of secession"? De Gaulle was right with his idea of the Europe des Patries. This is the sensible and safe way forward. Kohl's United States of Europe could be a recipe for disaster.
