LETTER:A lucky POW?
From Mr J. Rivett
Sir: During the last few weeks, I have read several letters in your paper about the ill-treatment of prisoners-of-war. May I write on behalf of the angels?
I was a POW in Austria for four years; for three-and-a-half of those years I was in weather-proof accommodation with adequate clean water and sanitation. Red Cross food parcels, clothing and mail reached me (I speak strictly of my own experience) while the German transport system operated. I have no memory of ill-treatment.
Perhaps I was lucky: my experience is of just and humane treatment.
Yours faithfully,
JOHN RIVETT
