Letter: Bad news for a British success

Sir: I write with a heavy heart following this morning's pronouncement of the loss of yet another Great British Institution, namely Land-Rover, to a foreign competitor. The remainder of the Rover Group aside, our total supremacy in the field of serious 4x4 off-road vehicles has now been lost.

I would ask through your pages for all owners of Land-Rover vehicles to display a black pennant for the next month as a sign of respect for the marque and this country's independent automotive industry.

Yours faithfully,

M. J. MINCH
