THE NATIONAL media have a poor record of covering events in Jersey, generally preferring the Bergerac cartoon version - all fat cats and conspiracy theories - to the inconveniently complicated reality. It was sad, though, to find the Independent on Sunday joining in this lazy trend by publishing a superficial trot around the usual prejudices ("Welcome to Wall Street- on-Sea", 22 November).

I would appreciate your setting the record straight on one particular error in Mary Braid's report. The Jersey Evening Post did not ignore the call for the establishment of a new financial crimes unit contained in the Edwards Report on offshore finances centre regulation, as she suggested. We reported it, on the front page, two weeks before the publication of the Edwards Report.
