Letter: Britain's disgrace carved in stone

Sir: Sir Denis Mahon is to be congratulated on his analysis of the Government's unfair treatment of the Getty Museum over its acquisition of the Three Graces.

What is also of concern is that two highly respected charities - the National Heritage Memorial Fund and the National Arts Collection Fund - have allocated substantial resources to secure this beautiful sculpture for the nation. This could result in the V & A and the National Gallery of Scotland becoming owners of a glorious work of art stained with Government dishonour.

Yours faithfully,

HUGH LEGGATT
