Letter: Don't blame the Germans: the fault lies with the British PM and his Chancellor

Sir: Surely, one of the most dismaying aspects of Wednesday's sterling crisis was the attitude of the dealer interviewed on ITV's News at Ten, who had enjoyed a 'good day'.

If Britain were at war, no doubt he and his fellow young dealers (shown drinking happily in a City bar) would have fought for their country, and I expect that many of them would have conducted themselves heroically. In this battle of the pound, though, they fought against the economic good of their country and most of their fellow countrymen (many of whom will fall in this monetary war, which benefited solely dealers, who made 'millions').

Yours faithfully,

BARBARA DOYLE
