Letter: Equal before the law?

Sir: So the Department of Employment believes that no regulations were broken by the 27 senior civil servants who took early retirement and continued to claim their salaries (report, 12 May). Fine. Can we therefore assume that the same attitude will be adopted towards any benefit claimant who fails to report erroneous overpayments?
