Letter: Everyone join in, but only when it's over

Sir: Meyrick Emrys-Roberts's letter (27 July) should get 'a big hand' from all music-lovers, except the gentleman in the front row who needs to show us all he recognises the ending.

Audiences need and appreciate leadership. I have been present at more than one concert where the conductor has successfully appealed to the audience to wait until the end of the first half. Promenaders would probably be delighted at the opportunity for true audience participation.

Yours sincerely,
