Letter: Experiments prove slugs do feel pain

Sir: A slug's nervous system is indeed too primitive to allow an appreciation of most aspects of life (Letters, 9 March). But pain is a primal stimulus, and from my experiments as a curious small boy I can assure Hugo Rainey that they both feel it and recoil (though sluggishly) from it.
