Letter: Flying in the face of common sense
ON A RECENT British Airways flight to Warsaw, not a single member of the cabin crew spoke Polish and there were no safety or other announcements in that language. On a Paris flight there was only the message, in French, that 'I am on board and I speak French, so do approach me if you have any problems.' BA blames the British education system for not teaching languages properly, but other airlines teach languages to their staff. Perhaps it pays to be chauvinistic, but do safety considerations matter at all?
