Letter: Guarantees of protection for BR pension funds

Sir: Regarding John MacGregor's assurances that there is no intention of 'doing a Maxwell' with the BR pension fund (Letters, 11 February), it is, I think, a measure of this Government's reputation that everyone instantly assumed that it intended doing exactly that.

Incidentally, Mr MacGregor seems to be unaware that the present pension is index-linked.
