Letter: Gypsies' way of life threatened
THE NOMADIC gypsies' centuries-old way of life in this country would be snuffed out if the Government's proposals in a recent White Paper became law.
To remove the obligation upon local authorities to provide travellers with sites and to make a criminal offence the parking of a caravan without a landowner's consent is to trap gypsies in a cynical pincer movement.
Yet the Government is committed to defending the ways of the Kurds and Marsh Arabs in Iraq. Perhaps a Tory minister could explain why the Government is not acting hypocritically?
