Letter: Israel in violation of Geneva Convention
Sir: When, in 1948, the Soviet Union declared a land blockade on West Berlin, the Western Allies lost no time in mounting the historic airlift to help several million beleaguered Berliners. Now that Israel and Lebanon - what an unholy alliance - have decided to blockade a strip of land in southern Lebanon, could not the International Red Cross use a couple of helicopters based on Cyprus to fly much-needed supplies to the more than 400 displaced persons stranded in no man's land?
I do not think that the Israeli and Lebanese governments could be so arrogant, so stupid, so inhuman as to shoot down unarmed helicopters on mercy missions.
Yours faithfully,
