Letter: Kind killing: a dangerous mistake

Sir: Professor Lindesay opposes euthanasia precisely because the high ideals of mercy killing can so easily be contaminated with base self-interested motives (Letters, 10 September).

Well, the high ideals of sexual love and academic research and compassion can pretty easily be contaminated with base self- interested motives as shown respectively in rape, plagiarism and making a fast buck out of other people's misfortunes. Should promotion of these ideals therefore also be made illegal?

Yours sincerely,

PETER CAVE
