Letter: Mencap: taking a pragmatic view of terminology for the disabled

Sir: With reference to your leading article 'The wilder shores of PC' (21 July), I am an elderly English lady living in a small Welsh- speaking village and have for some time been struggling with learning the Welsh language. I certainly have had 'learning difficulties' and have also been 'intellectually challenged' during my lessons. Am I 'mentally handicapped', despite being able to complete, without much difficulty, your daily cryptic crossword and the more erudite crossword appearing in your Sunday Review?
