Letter: People do vote for higher taxes
Sir: In recommending the additional member system as an electoral reform option, Miles Hudson seems to think (letter, 18 November) that the solution to the problem of party-controlled "appointed MPs" is to let the additional "top-up" MPs be drawn from the "best losers".
This bizarre idea would be even worse. How would electors feel, having gone to the effort of voting out their MP, if they saw him or her pop back up again in Parliament as a "best loser"?
