Letter: Policy as defined by the Government

Sir: Talking with a friend, we concluded that, while this country is rarely served well by its politicians, the current government seems particularly inept; we were dismayed by the apparent lack of a policy on transport or a policy on energy, or on education, or on anything at all.

Reflecting on this, it occurred to me that the Government may be employing some meaning of the word 'policy' I am unaware of. So I looked up 'policy' in Chambers English Dictionary and one meaning is 'a system of administration guided more by interest than by principle'.

This explains everything.

Yours faithfully,
