Letter: Political errors that led to Nachshon Waxman's death

Sir: In addition to the changes you suggest in Israel's approach to the negotiations with the PLO (leading article, 17 October), it would be to everyone's advantage if Yitzhak Rabin were to release the Palestinian prisoners who are still held in Israeli jails.

There may be some genuine criminals among them, but the great majority are in effect political hostages, detained not for anything they have done but because of their views. This violates the spirit of the agreement reached in Oslo and confirmed in Washington by Mr Rabin and Yasser Arafat more than a year ago.
