LETTER: Tea time for the Princess

From Mrs Frances Wilde

Sir: If the Princess of Wales really wants to be an ambassador for Britain she will have to mend her ways. You report (27 November) that in Patagonia she did not eat a single cake and drank only half a cup of tea in a Welsh tea shop. No ambassador would be so impolite.

The offer of refreshment is an act of hospitality worldwide and to refuse is insulting. The Princess will have to learn to swallow all kinds of exotic food and drink if she aspires to be a diplomat.

Yours faithfully,

Frances Wilde

Gwernogle, Dyfed

27 November
