I FOUND Michele Roberts's article 'Dogma that's had its day' (29 May) on the newly published catechism of the Roman Catholic Church extremely reassuring. She has convinced me that I can make a purchase confident in the knowledge that it reasserts the moral and doctrinal teaching of the church to an age that clearly wants to ditch any lasting values.

As a woman, I prefer to take the authority of the church fed to us by (yes) celibate popes and bishops. It is my experience that they have a much more refined understanding of the true meaning of love - pitched at a higher level than that evinced in this article.
