Sir: Dr Cowie states (letter, 19 May) that Boxgrove Man was tall, comfortably off and perhaps a different species from the rest of humanity.
The village of Boxgrove has for a long time been a parish of my family's Goodwood Estate. I wish to deny a suggestion that Boxgrove Man was one of my ancestors, making me the 13,000th Duke of Richmond, even though the media often regard dukes as a different species from the rest of humanity.
Yours sincerely,
RICHMOND
