Letter: Traveller's tool

Sir: So Phil Llewellin loves his Swiss Army knife (Gardening, 16 January), his having been to the Canadian Arctic and the jungles of Borneo. Maybe so, but I bet it never opened any tins when it got there. The tin opener of a Swiss Army knife is distinguished for its singular ability not to open tins. If an army marches on its stomach, this must be why the Swiss Army never goes anywhere. Or has Mr Llewellin discovered something they don't know?
