Sir: A shame that Reggie Nadelson was unable to write about some of the undoubted benefits of television without referring to the perceived opposition as eyeless, unintelligent, sanctimonious, etc.

It may simply be that those of us leading what she refers to as the high Victorian life merely choose, instead of watching TV, to do something else without imagining that we occupy any moral ground, high or otherwise.

Yours faithfully,

JEREMY HAWKSLEY
