Letter: Why Falklands allegations must be pursued

Sir: I find the reported comments of Nicholas Winterton, MP ('Police inquiry on 'execution' of Falklands POWs', 20 August) hideously depressing.

How can we claim any moral authority in these dreadful times if we allow claims that British soldiers killed unarmed prisoners of war to go uninvestigated? We must hope the allegations are untrue, but if they are true those concerned - at all ranks - must be seen to be punished.
