LETTER:Persecuted? Yah, rather

From Mr Barney Prendergast

Sir: I enjoyed Mary Braid's article (20 November) on the sufferings of those who speak with regional accents, but there was one glaring omission: no reference to the way innocent speakers of RP (Received Pronunciation) are accused of being "stuck up", "hoity-toity", "snobbish", etc. At 2 per cent of the population, perhaps they are the persecuted minority.

Yours faithfully,

Barney Prendergast
