WHILE Scotland is still mourning the death a year ago of Sir Alexander Gibson, it is irritating to read in your profile of Simon Rattle that "Sixteen years is the longest any British orchestra had ever had with one conductor" (11 February). Alex devoted over 25 years to the SNO, and almost as long to Scottish Opera, his own creation.
