Sir: As I drove to work at the United Nations this morning (27 June) I heard the arrest of the opposition leader in the former Zaire, Mr Tshisekedi, reported on the radio.

On arriving at work, I found on my desk an official circular concerning the country names terminology bulletin and announcing that "the new entry for the country formerly named Zaire should read the Democratic Republic of the Congo".
