Why Brendan Rodgers was sacked by Liverpool

Brendan Rodgers was sacked on Sunday after a 1-1 draw in the Merseyside derby at Everton. The video above explains why.

The 42-year-old had been in charge at the club since the start of the 2012-13 season, but despite a strong campaign in 2013-14, where the Reds were close to winning the title, he failed to win any silverware despite heavy investment by ownership.

Speaking just minutes before being sacked, reportedly over the phone by managing director Ian Ayre, Rodgers said that he "felt no pressure" despite a middling start to the season where Liverpool had picked up 12 points from their first eight matches.

"There are two points: the first is I don't feel any pressure, I can honestly say that," he said.

There is pressure to sell newspapers and make stories and I understand and respect that. My job is to worry about the team, that is the only pressure I will feel.

"People will want to put pressure on for different reasons. I don't feel it, I don't want it but anything externally, there is no drama.

"I have never felt anything other than secure. That is not being complacent. I was brought here to do a job, I signed a new deal (in May 2014) and the owners know it takes time."

Jurgen Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti are the two favourites to take over at Anfield.
