Professor Anderson's model engineIn the winter of 1763-64, Watt was asked by Professor Anderson of Glasgow College to repair this model Newcomen engine. The model performed badly, and Watt had to draw upon all his skills and knowledge to puzzle out why. Working on the model was the starting point for Watt's entire career working on engines and everything that came after. This model will be loaned from the Hunterian Museum for the first 3 months of the exhibition, after which it will be replaced by a specially-commissioned replica. The last time the original was displayed in London was in 1876, so this is really a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the actual thing at the Science Museum.
