Michelle, London: Born in Edinburgh, Michelle came to London just before Christmas 2009 - she joked that she had a cheeseburger for Christmas dinner - and has been on the streets ever since,' says Jeffries. 'She's 23 now. She 'lives' in doorways and sheltered alleys in and around Leicester Square with her boyfriend. They look out for each other - they have to, as it can be dangerous, especially at weekends when drunks often become violent against the homeless. Michelle also told me life on the streets could be fun and that it affords her a freedom she has never known. But addictions keep her where she is; it's a vicious circle.'
