One in three new single-family homes in the United States - 340,000 of them each year - is a factory-built mobile home, according to a report in Building Design. Eighteen million Americans, known collectively as "trailer trash", now live in mobiles.

More than 2,000 buildings not normally open to the public will open their doors to all comers this weekend as part of the 1996 Open House/Heritage Open Days event.
