Foster and Partners, with a team of French engineers (Sogelerg, EEG and SERF) have won a limited competition to build a gigantic motorway viaduct in southern France. The 2.5km bridge will form part of the new A75 motorway between Clermont-Ferrand and Beziers and cross the Tarn valley to the west of Millau in Aveyron. At its highest point, the stunning viaduct will top Europe's tallest building, the Foster-designed Commerzbank, Frankfurt.
Two exhibitions to look forward to at the RIBA Architecture Centre, 66 Portland Place, London W1, this month open on 14 August; they are Architecture on the Horizon, a showcase of the work of 22 up and coming practices around the world, and Tibetan Monasteries in Exile, which documents the growth of new Tibetan monasteries in Nepal and India.
