The Department of National Heritage has decided to list the Thirties Jubilee Bathing Pool, in Penzance, in the wake of the local council's decision to fund a pounds 225,000 repair programme. Campaigners who have stopped a scheme to replace the pool with a pounds 4.5m 'aqua centre' say the listing is a 'recognition of the architectural interest of the tidal pools', of which there are 10 left in the country. Plymouth City Council's equally fine Tinside Pool, on the Hoe, is likely to close this year because of lack of public funds.
